When Jacob and I are out shooting together, we often get asked a variety of questions. People are curious about the kind of bow I shoot, how Jacob encouraged me to try archery, and how we get along so well during strenuous events like the Total Archery Challenge (TAC). Let’s start with the easy one: what kind of bow I shoot.
I shoot a Mathew’s Mission Switch bow, which allows you to decrease the weight of the bow to as low as 30 lbs. When I first started shooting, I didn’t have a whole lot of strength to pull back a heavier bow. Many bows start at 40-50 lbs, some start at 60-70 lbs, making it difficult for many women to shoot. The Mathew’s Mission Switch was the perfect starter bow for me. I justified the investment by reminding myself that we can eventually give this bow to our children and make archery a family event. My bow has served me extremely well for the last four and a half years, and I hope to upgrade soon to either the Mathew’s Prima or the Mathew’s Title to enhance my archery game.
As a woman in archery, I always encourage the guys who ask us questions to bring their wives out! At these events, I am constantly told we need more women archers, and I am here to encourage instead of discourage.
How Jacob Encouraged Me to Try Archery
Jacob played a significant role in my journey into archery. He has always been passionate about the sport and wanted to share that experience with me. He encouraged me to give it a try, emphasizing the fun and the challenge it offers. With his support and patience, I found myself enjoying archery more than I expected. His enthusiasm was contagious, and soon, it became something we loved doing together.

Navigating TAC as a Team
Participating in the Total Archery Challenge (TAC) is no small feat, especially as a couple. The event is physically demanding and tests your mental resilience. People often ask how we manage to get along so well during such strenuous activities. The key lies in our mutual respect and support for each other. We understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses and always aim to be each other’s biggest cheerleaders. Communication is vital, and we make sure to keep it open and positive.
Encouraging More Women in Archery
Whenever we meet fellow archers, I’m always advocating for more women to join the sport. Archery is incredibly empowering, and I believe more women should experience the thrill and satisfaction it brings. If you’re a guy reading this, I encourage you to invite your wife or girlfriend to try archery. It’s a great way to bond and enjoy an activity together. If you’re a woman considering archery, don’t hesitate! There are bows designed to accommodate different strength levels, like the Mathew’s Mission I started with.
Archery has become a significant part of our lives. It’s not just about the competition; it’s about the journey, the learning, and the shared experiences. From my Mathew’s Mission bow to the exciting prospect of upgrading, from Jacob’s encouragement to our teamwork at TAC, every step has been rewarding.
So, whether you’re a seasoned archer or just starting, remember that archery is for everyone. Let’s continue to grow this community and inspire more people to pick up a bow and join the adventure. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more archery action and outdoor adventure content!
