I used to think that if I didn’t do something every single day, I was failing. If I missed a journaling session, skipped meditation, or took a rest day from working out, I’d guilt-trip myself into thinking I wasn’t committed. But here’s what I’ve learned: perfection isn’t necessary for progress—and, in fact, it often holds us back.
Once I stopped forcing myself into rigid routines and instead allowed flexibility, something unexpected happened—I actually did those things more often! Journaling, meditating, working out, doing yoga, and stretching became activities I looked forward to rather than chores I had to check off a list. The less I attached guilt to them, the more naturally they fit into my life.
Progress Over Perfection
- Doing something regularly, even if not daily, still brings results.
- Guilt and shame can create resistance—when I let go of them, I found joy in the process.
- Consistency doesn’t mean perfection; it means showing up when you can and making it count.
Since adopting this mindset, I’ve not only felt more accomplished, but I’ve also taken my journaling to a whole new level—I even created my own journal! If you’re interested, you can check it out and purchase a digital copy. The best part? You can customize it completely on Canva’s free version to make it your own.

I’ve also included links to the most recent meditations I’ve been doing. Additionally, I’ve realized something deeper about myself—when I feel dismissed, I get annoyed because it brings up past experiences where I felt unheard. This has made me hesitant to share my feelings out of fear that I’d have to defend them. I no longer want to spend my energy that way, and recognizing this has been a powerful shift for me.
So if you’ve been beating yourself up for missing a day (or a few), take a deep breath and remember: you don’t have to do it every day for it to be effective. The journey is about progress, not perfection.
